Butter Molds

image of the object

Butter molds were used to form butter into a decorative shape.

Displayed here are three different butter molds:

  • Around wooden mold that has a design carved into the top
  • A rectangular wooden mold
  • A glass butter mold with wooden press and handle.

These molds were “for preparing butter for the table in houses where neatness of appearance is studied”.

(quoted by Franklin 2003, p. 190, from American Agriculturist)
