Pictured at left is one of the more than two dozen styles of sandwich dippers that were made during the 1920s. Ice cream sandwiches were very popular during this period and were made both at soda fountains and at home.

Ice cream that was purchased for home use during that time period was sold in bricks (not in bulk) and the ice cream was simpley sliced off from the brick and then placed inside wafers so these sandwich dippers were not used in homes.

Instead, sales of these utensils were pitched to soda fountains and ice cream parlors (Franklin 2003, p. 283).

In order to use the slice molder Ice cream was dipped or scooped into the end of the utensil and when the lever on the handle was pulled, the ice cream emerged in the shape of the metal form, ready to be put between two wafers.
