Wooden Measures

image of the object

The image at the left displays three different sizes of wooden measures from at least the late 19th century.

From left to right:

  • pint
  • quart
  • 1/2 gallon

Each was scraped and hollowed from a single piece of wood . It is likely that they were machine made.

The notches on the rim functioned to regulate the amount of liquid in the vessels (visible on smallest and largest).
